Kids activities in Languedoc Roussillon - the Top 20

According to the Creme de Languedoc website these are the top activities for kids in the Languedoc Roussillon region.

Among those mentioned in the Pyrenees Orientales, (the department with Perpignan as its Capital) are Aqualand at St. Cyprien, the little Yellow train (Le Petit Traen Jaune) and the beach at Argeles sur Mer.

Guided tours in Girona city


Girona Museum of Cinema is offering guided tours of the museum every Saturday during the summer season at 18:00. Advance booking is not necessary.

This museum in the centre of Girona offers 500 years worth of history of cinema and reveals many of the tricks of the trade that continue to keep us entertained in the 21st century.

French strike June 24th 2010 : FROGBUS.com services will run as normal

Travel in France will be severely disrupted on Thursday June 24th as all major transport unions go on strike. Train services will be disrupted from 20:00 on June 23 until 8:00 on June 25. Expect disruption at French airports also as Air France will join the strike from 01:00 on June 24th until midnight.

Festa Major 2010 in Perpignan


23rd June 2010

Part of the Festa Major festival in Perpignan is the celebration of the "Feux de la Saint Jean".

This tradition involves relay runners carrying the flame of St Jean from a bonfire lit on the top of the Canigou mountain to the Castillet in central Perpignan.

La Troubade du Canigou 2010 - Pyrenees Orientales


19th - 20th June 2010

A long tradition celebrating the Summer Solstice of St Jean will take place this weekend with the meeting of French & Spanish Catalans on the summit of the Canigou, the highest peak in the Pyrenees Orientales.

Groups of walkers and representatives of villages and towns throughout Catalonia, climb to the peak of the Canigou (at 2,784m high), bringing with them bunches of wood (fagots) to contribute to the huge bonfire prepared on the summit. Fete de la Musique 2010 - Perpignan

The Fête de la Musique is celebrated throughout France each year on 21 June. The tradition started in the early 80s in France, and has now become the International Music Day, celebrated in over 100 countries worldwide.

"Voie des Femmes" Festival, Pyrenees Orientales

A unique music festival is taking place at Maury this weekend. Maury is 35kms from Perpignan (map here) and is set in a stunning part of the Pyrenees Orinetales, surrounded by the mountains of the Pyrenees & Cathare regions.

The "Voie des Femmes" festival showcases female artists only from the Pyrenees Orientales area and further afield.

Summer season kicks off in the Pyrenees Orientales


Summer season officially gets underway in Canet (closest beach resort to Perpignan, Pyrenees Orientales) on Saturday 19th June 2010 with a Celtic themed "Spectacle".

From 6pm onwards at Place Méditerranée (map here) Canet will have a "Riverdance" feel to it as Irish dancers and musicians provide entertainment leading up to a fireworks display just after 11pm.

Grec 2010 Festival of Barcelona


June 13 — August 1 2010

First held in 1976, the "Grec" is now one of Barcelona's major annual festivals, with events including music, theatre, dance and circus held at various venues across the city for a 6 week period from mid June to the end of July.

Information and tickets can be obtained from the ticket and information office at the top of the Portal de l'Àngel, in the south-east corner of the Plaza Catalunya, contact details here.

New route between Girona airport (GRO) & Vilnius (Lithuania)


Lithuanian low-cost air carrier Star1 Airlines has launched direct flights from Vilnius (VNO) to Girona (GRO) airport.

The route that was highly popular last summer will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, until October 3rd.

It is estimated that around 7000 travellers will make the trip between Vilnius & Girona airport this summer.

Catalan Fair in Girona


4th - 6th June 2010

The "Fira de Tot Cat" is being held at the Palau de Fires this weekend in Girona city (map here).

Supported by local government, the objective of the fair is to promote and help companies who use the Catalan langauge and identity as an integral part of their offering.
