Carnavals in Girona province

Its not just Northern Catalonia (the Pyrenees Orientales department of France) which has a tradition of Carnavals in February in March.

Carnavals are also part of the heritage around Girona province in Southern Catalonia.

Girona airport and Ryanair row

Its been well documented this week that the 5 year agreement between Ryanair & the Catalan government for Girona airport has collapsed. Ryanair are planning to reduce flight numbers during summer 2011 by as much as 25% from their original summer schedule.

Despite this setback, Frogbus still intends to increase its frequencies at Girona airport and create a new city link between Perpignan and Girona as announced last week - click here for details.

Carnaval season in the Pyrénées-Orientales & Perpignan

February and March see carnivals all over the Pyrénées-Orientales (Perpignan department area) – fancy dress, street parades and fireworks, singing, dancing.....along with the symbolic burning of evil spirits!

The towns of Argelès-sur-Mer, Banyuls sur Mer, Prats-de-Mollo, Amélie-les-Bains, Arles-sur-Tech, Les Angles, Céret and Le Barcarès are particularly well known for their annual 'Carnavals'.
