Rio Loco festival 2011 - Toulouse

15th - 19th June 2011

The Rio Loco is one of Toulouse's major annual festivals and this year is dedicating its 17th edition to world culture & music treasures.

Over 200 artists will perform throughout the city over the course of the festival with headline shows each evening at the Prairie des Filtres (map here) open air park in central Toulouse.

Ida y Vuelta festival 2011 Perpignan

1st - 4th June 2011

Perpignan's annual Ida y Vuelta (Come and Go) Festival presents a mixture of music gigs and street parties from home-grown musical talent to better known names.

Most of the gigs are held at La Casa musicale (map here) with others held around the streets of Perpignan city centre.

Festa Major de Perpignan 2011

9th - 26th June 2011

For most of the month of June, Perpignan city holds one of its major annual festivals, the 'Festa Major de Perpignan'.

One of the festival highlights is the celebration of the "Feux de la Saint-Jean". This tradition involves relay runners carrying the flame of St Jean from a bonfire lit on the top of the Canigou mountain to the Castillet in central Perpignan followed by spectacles, events & fireworks !

Primavera Sound Festival Barcelona 2011

The Primavera Sound music festival takes place in Barcelona between the 13th and the 29th May, with the main festival over weekend of the 27th-29th.

Festival de Polar de Perpignan 2011

13th - 15th May 2011

Check out the Festival Polar (Detective novel) in Perpignan this weekend at the Couvent des Minimes.

Being held for the 2nd time, this cross border gathering of authors, artists & litterati is themed 'Sang & Noir'. (A word play on 'Sang et Or', the Catalan flag's colours - blood red and gold).

This years festival is dedicated to French & Catalan (from Figuères, Girona & Barcelona) authors & artists who are associated with black literature, cinema, photography and music.

New route between Girona (GRO) & Moscow (DME) with Transaero airlines

Transaero airlines have announced a new route between Girona (GRO) & Moscow (DME) for the summer of 2011.

The route will operate on Friday afternoons between the start of June and the end of September with an estimated return trip price of approx €400 for the 4 hour flight.

Perpignan fête l'Europe 2011

Europe day is celebrated on the 9th of May each year across the 27 member states of the EU and this year Perpignan city is getting in on the act.

For the week between the 7th and 13th of May the city of Perpignan is holding a Europe themed festival with numerous events and expositions planned all around the city centre.

New Jat Airways routes at Girona airport for summer 2011

Jat Airways have announced a new weekly flight between the capital of Poland, Warsaw (WAW) and Girona (GRO) airport starting from April 30th on Saturdays through to October 1st.

This adds to their recently launched twice weekly service between Belgrade (BEG) & Girona.

Jat Airways are also planning to launch flights from Gdansk & Katowice to Girona from June 11th.
