Temporada Alta festival 2011 - Girona

The Temporada Alta - Autumn Festival of Catalonia 2011 kicks off this weekend in Girona city. Now in its 20th year, this years festival features 94 shows from 19 different countries.

There is a vast programme over the autumn period drawn from theatre, music, and dance with something to suit all tastes.

Occitània festival 2011 - Toulouse

The annual Occitània festival in Toulouse brings together 400 artistes performing in over 50 events during this month long festival.

Girona Jazz festival 2011

Check out the Girona city Jazz festival which runs for the last 2 weeks in September every year. This years festival has 18 concerts featuring Catalan, European and American Jazz artists. The festival culminates in a free concert on Friday September 30th by well known Jazz artists Ken Vandermark and Hårvard Wiik.

Festival Jazzèbre 2011 - Perpignan

The 23rd Festival JAZZEBRE in Perpignan gets underway this weekend! This month long celebration of Jazz music sees a series of concerts at venues in Perpignan including the Théâtre de l'Archipel, the Médiator and many others.

There are also concerts in towns around the Pyrénées-Orientales and the Aude and ’musical picnics’ at natural and cultural sites around the region, as well as exhibitions, debates, musical apéros, films.

Andorra - The Snail feast !

Its not just the French who are into snails! This weekend, the town of Encamp in Andorra (map here) celebrates its annual Festival of snails and beer !

Girona - Napoleonic Festival 2011

16th & 17th September 2011

Check out the Napoleonic festival this weekend in Girona ! In Girona's old city and the Plaza de la Independencia, you can relive one of the most famous episodes in the history of the city of Girona from 200 years ago.

The attempted assault of Napoleons troops on the city is re-enacted and for the 2 days of the festival you'll be transported back to the 19th century with plenty of activities to entertain young and old.

Catalan National holiday - Diada de Cataluyna; 11th September 2011

The date September 11th is infamous all over the world, but in Catalonia September 11th has special significance as the Catalan National holiday - Diada de Cataluyna.

Throughout the day, there are political demonstrations, concerts and celebration events in the major cities of Catalonia including - Barcelona, Girona, Figueres, Lleida, etc and even Perpignan (France) in Northern Catalonia!

Piano aux Jacobins - Toulouse

Andorra v Ireland international soccer match

UEFA announced this week that the international soccer match between Andorra & Ireland will take place at the Estadi Comunal d'Aixovall which is close to Andorra la Vella.

Previously both sides had agreed to play the match in Barcelona.
